It's actually really satisfying to put together something that functions as intended, when it's something that I'm doing for the first time...

I put a network together at work, see, and it's working as intended. In a whole freaking bunch of places. I WIN.

(now, granted, it's not elegant, but if they want elegant, they gotta pay someone who knows what the hell they're doing. I have some slight idea, but am by no means an expert.)

((and I'm still not cool with getting up on rafters and walking around. I could NOT be an insulation installer...))

The more I read about geocaching, the more I think it looks like a good excuse to go outside and go someplace with a purpose...

Y'all doing good?

fibonacci mileage conversion

So. Looking at random things online, right-- it's friday, we've been busting alon all week and it's slow, right now.

Fair enough.

And then I see a blog post that says that for a miles-to-kilometers approximation, consecutive terms of the Fibonacci sequence approximate the conversion.

I don't believe things that I read, without checking them, sometimes. Because see, I like rules-of-thumb (rule o' wrist? </boondock saints>), but I don't want to use a faulty conversion.

Checking this with excel, once you get past the 8th or ninth term in the fibonacci sequence, it's within half a percent of the true value.

Math is impressive...

My new job looks like it is going to be AWESOME. Seriously.

Flame-retardancy tests? who gets to burn things (or attempt to) at work? Really-- show of hands.

And... yeah, I get to wear shorts. no flip-flops, that's a safety hazard. Heh.

(I'm aware it was the first day, and that everything looks awesome on the first day. That aside...)
There're lots of good things planned, and lots that is being developed. I'm very thoroughly excited.

And several times it occurred to me, today, that, holy crap, I really do have a job doing something I like. In a place I like. Unreal.

Thing that sucks, something fierce, though...I miss Nicole. She's in Houston, finishing things up for a couple more weeks. Not cool... BUT. She'll be moving here (with all our stuff) in a couple weeks, which will rule. Yay, real apartment...

My work laptop is a Thinkpad. It has the pointing nub, which I like. BUT IT HAS NO GORRAM WINDOWS KEY. NONE. WHAT THE HEY.

And I have to make some serious strides re-learning SolidWorks (it's a 3-d CAD modeling and analysis program), too. But, I got lots to do, and I can do it. Whoop.

So I see this AAA truck today, right. For those of y'all in other countries, AAA (the logo looks like this: ( ) is an auto-repair service-- but nationwide, where you can call and they'll send someone to your location, rather than you having to find someone locally, yourself.

But it says "AAA batteries delivered and installed" (all in the same font, punctuated like that"

my brain parses this as:

delivered and installed? how hard can it be?

"ONOZ, I GOT A DEAD FLASHLIGHT, WHAT CAN I DO?"
